{"id":503,"date":"2012-03-29T01:07:43","date_gmt":"2012-03-29T01:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.islandtechnologies.net\/blog\/blog\/?p=503"},"modified":"2012-03-29T01:07:43","modified_gmt":"2012-03-29T01:07:43","slug":"att-dsl-speed-class-action-lawsuit-settlement-deadline-at-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.islandtechnologies.net\/blog\/att-dsl-speed-class-action-lawsuit-settlement-deadline-at-hand\/","title":{"rendered":"AT&#038;T DSL Speed Class Action Lawsuit: Settlement Deadline At Hand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a current or former DSL customer of AT&amp;T (or a related affiliate) and you paid for DSL service <strong>between March 31, 1994 and January 27, 2012,<\/strong> take note: You may be able to benefit from a class action lawsuit settlement with the communications giant&#8230;but you must respond soon!<\/p>\n<p>The nationwide class action lawsuit (actually, a merger of two such suits) alleged that AT&amp;T failed to deliver promised DSL service speeds to customers.\u00a0 AT&amp;T &#8220;strongly denied&#8221; any allegations of wrongdoing, but agreed to settle &#8220;to avoid                                         the burden and cost of further litigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The deadline to opt-out of the class action lawsuit expired almost two years ago, so at this point, &#8220;class members&#8221; can either submit claims (and possibly receive a portion of the settlement) or do nothing (and receive nothing &#8212; while still being required to honor the settlement by not suing in the future).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Class members have until May 31, 2012 to submit settlement claims<\/strong> (the high-level details of which follow):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>If AT&amp;T&#8217;s records show that, for one or more months, the speed of your DSL Service                                         was limited to a rate below the maximum rate for the plan you purchased, you may                                         be eligible to receive $2.90 for each such month.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If AT&amp;T\u2019s records show that,  for one or more months, your DSL Service may have performed                                         at speeds lower than certain  speed thresholds specified in the settlement, you may                                         be eligible to receive $2.00 for  each such month.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If AT&amp;T\u2019s records show that your DSL Service fell into <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">both of the categories above                                             for one or more months<\/span>, you may be eligible to receive $2.90 for each such                                         month.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> If AT&amp;T&#8217;s Records do not indicate that you fall into one of the categories above,                                         but you believe that your DSL Service has not performed at satisfactory speeds,                                         you may still be eligible for a one-time payment of $2.00.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A settlement fund (approximately $2,000,000) will be divided among class members submitting valid                                         claims.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that class members in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas will be subject to different settlement terms.\u00a0 Full details can be found here:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dslspeedsettlement.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/dslspeedsettlement.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you think you might be eligible to participate in this settlement, Island Technologies recommends you submit a claim (one per each DSL telephone number)&#8230;if you have any questions, give our Tech Support department a ring at <strong>(818) 832-2310<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a current or former DSL customer of AT&amp;T (or a related affiliate) and you paid for DSL service between March 31, 1994 and January 27, 2012, take note: You may be able to benefit from a class action lawsuit settlement with the communications giant&#8230;but you must respond soon!
